Jo Meek – Comrades 2014

by on June 5, 2014

I was introduced to Jo a couple of months ago and she had decided that she was running Comrades this year.

She had not specifically prepared for Comrades as she had other race commitments prior to this so it was more of a, come and run and lets see what happens.  From her previous performances at various races I had felt that she was in shape to run a Gold at Comrades, around 8th to 10th position.

We looked at her training times and worked out a race strategy that a she should run around 6H46 and she had told me she felt that a 6H50 would be a good result for her. For Jo to run a sub 6H50 on race day and finish in 5th position is a remarkable achievement, also taking into account that this was her first time to have a crack at the Comrades Down Run, which is a lot more taxing on your body than the UP Run.

I was extremely happy with her result and i have no doubt that she is destined to win this race in the very near future, if we plan and train specifically for the race. She is very strong mentally as well as physically which is what you need to conquer Comrades.

Keep her name in your mind and watch this space.
